A motive

erick's picture

Bombs, bullets, disease, poison, pollution, what do all these have in common? They can kill you. Add one more to the list: motives. A motive is defined as the goal or object of a person's actions.

If I am going to slip into wrong motives this is usually the one I will digress into. Like a swamp it isn’t pretty, and it can stink. If left unchecked it can kill. Maybe not literally but certainly it can tarnish a soul, grieve the Spirit, and possibly hurt those near and dear. It can cause someone to squirm in the face of conflict because of the fear of rejection.

Psalm 139:23-24.

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.

24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Dear God, show me when to speak and when to be quiet. May my actions back up my words. Guide me to produce good motives instead of bad motives.

Amen
